Experience

Leah Macia is a native of Charleston, West Virginia, and has lived in Bonn, Germany, New York City and Washington D.C.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in political science and psychology from West Virginia University in 1989, and thereafter pursued graduate studies in music history at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  She received her J.D. from West Virginia University in 1998, where she received the Baker Cup award for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy and was the captain of the National Moot Court Team. 

Mrs. Macia has extensive experience in both the public and private sector over a broad range of issues and practice areas.  In the public sector, she has served as an Assistant Kanawha County Public Defender, an Assistant West Virginia Attorney General in the Appellate Division, Law Clerk to the Hon. Joseph R. Goodwin and the Hon. Carrie Webster, as counsel to the West Virginia Senate Majority Leader, the West Virginia Senate Judiciary Committee, and the Senate Committee on Government Organization.  Most recently she served as General Counsel to the West Virginia Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority and as Senior Counsel to the West Virginia Department of Military Affairs and Public Safety. 

In the private sector, she has worked at the law firms of Bailey & Glasser, PLLC and Spilman Thomas and Battle, PLLC in the areas of criminal defense, deliberate intent defense, appellate law, corporate litigation, federal and state administrative law, banking, consumer finance, employment, and tax law.
